Amazon Inc.: Amazon and Cloud
Amazon announced on December 1, 2025, its intentions of investing $1.5 billion into Asia cloud computing operations through an $1.5 billion commitment, including plans for 10 new data centers in 10 Asian nations that should be operational by end of 2026.
"Amazon Inc is committed to offering more resources and services for customers throughout Asia," declared CEO Jeff Bezos on December 1, 2025.
The company disclosed a budget of $1 billion for infrastructure set up, to be spent on purchasing servers, renting spaces and installing necessary equipment.
An additional $500 million has been set aside by the company in order to hire local talent, specifically software developers, engineers and data scientists.
As my reporting indicates, much of this investment will focus on Singapore - an island city-state known for its cutting-edge digital infrastructure and competitive tech talent pool.
"Amazon Inc's Chief Technology Officer Werner Vogels stressed, that this strategic move further solidifies their position within Asia."
Amazon's investment also stems from Asia's increasing cloud adoption. Businesses relying on cloud services for data storage and protection purposes as well as driving innovation are taking full advantage of them.
Amazon's Asian cloud competitors such as Alibaba Cloud and Tencent Cloud have responded by increasing investments. Both enterprises seek a larger slice of Asia's cloud market.
Amazon will take its next step by starting construction of data centers by January 2027, planning for initial operations from these data centers by that date.
